Every day is a blessing

Hi, today I'm feeling more grateful than ever. My father just got a narrow escape...

His life was in danger in an accident on his trip in Australia this week. Thanks to a couple of doctors in the tour, his life was saved!

Now I feel "Everyday is a blessing!"  and couldn't agree more.

The two doctors' deed inspires me to live in gratitude everyday - to think  positively and to improve happily.

Here is some thoughts for gratitude that I use for meditation for gratitude and compassion:

“If the only prayer you said in your whole life was, ‘thank you,’ that would suffice.” – Meister Eckhart
We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude. ~Cynthia Ozick

When eating bamboo sprouts, remember the man who planted them. ~Chinese Proverb

Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it. ~William Arthur Ward

Most human beings have an almost infinite capacity for taking things for granted. ~Aldous Huxley

If you want to turn your life around, try thankfulness. It will change your life mightily. ~Gerald Good

Saying thank you is more than good manners. It is good spirituality. ~Alfred Painter

Be Thankful
Be thankful that you don’t already have everything you desire,
If you did, what would there be to look forward to?

Be thankful when you don’t know something
For it gives you the opportunity to learn.

Be thankful for the difficult times.
During those times you grow.

Be thankful for your limitations
Because they give you opportunities for improvement.

Be thankful for each new challenge
Because it will build your strength and character.

Be thankful for your mistakes
They will teach you valuable lessons.

Be thankful when you’re tired and weary
Because it means you’ve made a difference.

It is easy to be thankful for the good things.
A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are
also thankful for the setbacks.

GRATITUDE can turn a negative into a positive.
Find a way to be thankful for your troubles
and they can become your blessings.

Some basic characters in human being

B,

Take a look at the three short articles, it will give you something basic and real in life.

I think TO BE POLITENESS IS purely from kindness and empathy, not from interest to gain something in return.

This real story gives me a sense of what basic virtue we need to have as a human being.

Communication skill/persuasive power is the most important thing to learn and to have than anything else throughout our life.

While we want to get our ideas across and to to have a leadership charisma, we must be honest, polite and humble. Without this character, we will not have any rapport to get people to listen to us.

If you want to say something, always say it clearly, patiently with simple and direct language. Making things simple to understand is an art and is not easy.

Learning from children

B,

Last night, I was hooked in BBC outlook again:
A boy without arms:

https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=pu.149887627901&type=1#!/photo.php?fbid=10150549531217902&set=pu.149887627901&type=1&theater

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/p00mys0b

This 19 year-old boy just got his U offer in Computer as a major with top scores in South Africa.  In the interview, he shares his experience and outlook for life - focus ,determine, and discipline "I know how to prioritise my time." He  always gets Inspiration from Nelsen Madelle who believed in Freedom and fought  for it; he got it. "So if you believe in something and fight for it, you will definitely get it," he said.

I just feel that we with perfect limbs tend to find excuse for our mistakes or blame others for our failures, that is the reasons we repeat the mistakes again. Look at Nick Vujicic and the boy, we will have no excuse next time.

http://www.lifewithoutlimbs.org/

He got so many people to help him in his school and many treated him as normal person. He himself believes in himself a normal, despite some teases and bullies.

Another schoolgirl -
The Pakistani schoolgirl whose anti-Taliban diary won her a peace award.

Malala Yusafzai from Mingora in Pakistan's Swat Valley. She describes how her life was changed by an online diary she wrote for BBC Urdu in 2009 when she was just 11 years old. At that time, Swat was under Taliban control and girls' education was banned.
Tue, 24 Jan 12

Malala's dairy reminded me of an invitation from BBC OUTLOOK four years ago asking me to write daily life in Hong Kong in blog form to BBC outlook. I finally didn't take the offer for I thought my English was too poor be read by public.

Her story proves I was wrong -

1.Don't look down yourself and never say I can't if others say you CAN!. Seize golden opportunity because it will not often to occur.

I bet my English might have improved greatly if I had accepted the "job" for BBC. And my dream in writing would be on the way to come true.

2.Also, from the Presentation Skill Course in which everyone achieved to make their best-time 45-min talk show, I have realised the most difficult thing is determination from your heart, deep heart - in subconscious mind.  Once you have determined, everything is on the way to be done because if you enjoy in doing it, you will find all resources to make it, including strategy, methods and help.

3.Ordinary people can make a change of the world - like the primary school girl, she uses her diary to save so many people's lives in the area controlled by Taliba and save girls' right to school. Her English wasn't good enough for English native speakers but her voice brought about peace and freedom to the people of her area and protect girls' right to school.

The humorous movie THREE IDIOTS tells all parents and children: Don't chase for marks, fame and the key to success is not to go shortcut but -

1 Find, create your interest and turn it to your passion (subconsciously) and turn your passion into value for people

2 You can only make success by pursuing excellence via practicing and trying and error, then success will chase you.

3 Or You don't have to chase success, you just sharpen your profession and success will follow you automatically.

4 All you need is to achieve it is to commit, focus and discipline.

5 If you worry for tomorrow, you can't focus on today's study and life. Then tomorrow is always a worrying thing because you are too fearful too do things well.

But if you focus on today, you have no worry for tomorrow because you deserve for good results, which chases you.

Hopefully you can get somethings inspiring from the above sharing.

A visit to Northern Vietnam

Here is a set of recent photos about my brother's family visit to Northern Vietnam.

I like most the part that you stay in a village, experiencing farmer's housework and exploring in the terraces. Indeed, as Qiu said, the pictures reminded us of our childhood in the fields and rurual life  outside the wall of our quarters of the U in China.

It must be an extraordinary trip for them again.

Reading the two fresh articles below, you may get a sense of resonance and discover some insight of your visit.

AQ, EQ and CQ in the frontline - How they affect our careers

Addiction to computer, internet games or vedio games = drug abuse

DANGER OF ADDICTION TO THE INTERNET
http://www.video-game-addiction.org/symptoms-computer-addiction-teens.html

How to deal with the disease:
http://www.video-game-addiction.org/wilderness.html

Why Wilderness Works

Wilderness therapy programs, also known as "wilderness camps" or "outdoor education," are highly effective in treating teens struggling with behavioral problems like video game addiction or obsessive Internet use. First and foremost, you remove the tools for these addictions by placing them in a pristine wilderness environment, allowing the child to focus on the underlying reasons they have become compulsive game players.
Many of these teens have never experienced one-on-one time with nature. Many of them have been locked in their bedrooms where they play games long into the night. In wilderness programs, teens develop not only an appreciation for the solitude and power of nature, a profound metaphor for the life: it offers much more than what you see on your Xbox "world" or computer monitor. This therapeutic, "back to basics" approach helps teens shed their destructive learned behaviors and start fresh.
Sometimes gaming gives teens a false sense of control. If they play long enough, they can become a wizard or an expert sniper. In the wilderness, they learn real-world skills. One of the earliest lessons in the wilderness is that some things can be controlled, while others cannot. Teens learn they can control their own behaviors and responses, but they cannot change camp rules or control the environment, weather, or other campers. The wilderness becomes the perfect teacher - a teacher who does not bend rules, make exceptions, or accept excuses.
In the wilderness, cooperation and communication are essential for students who wish to stay comfortable. If campers don't want to get rained on, they must set up their tarps; if they want to eat a warm meal, they must learn to start a fire. Through the wilderness experience, students learn the value of teamwork, begin to lean on each other, and foster meaningful relationships with other teens - often for the first time in their lives.
Living in nature can be a challenging and humbling experience. Under the direction and guidance of expert field leaders trained in cognitive behavioral therapy, teens become strong enough, physically and mentally, to tackle these challenges. As teens begin to learn real-life skills such as survival, self-care, coping mechanisms, and personal responsibility, they develop a profound sense of confidence. After students learn a new real-world task or skill, wilderness guides sit down and discuss how those lessons can be generalized to life at home. Guides go through the experience with the teen, providing structure and boundaries along the way while showing students the immediate consequences of their actions.
By rising to the wilderness challenge, teens discover they are capable of thriving in any environment, even without the comforts of home. When the computers, televisions, video games, and other distractions are removed, teens are left with vast open spaces and the stillness of nature to reflect on their lives, their mistakes, and their relationships at home. They learn to appreciate the simple things - water, food, a warm place to sleep, and eventually friends and family. For teens who have isolated themselves in a virtual world, this reconnection with other human beings is a critical part of the wilderness therapy experience.
A few wilderness programs are specially equipped to address the psychological and emotional issues behind video gaming addiction. Aspen Achievement Academy in Utah, a wilderness program once featured on British TV's Brat Camp, focuses on this issue in a way that helps teens recognize the reasons they escape to virtual worlds. SUWS Youth & Adolescent in Idaho also specializes in such obsessive behaviors. SUWS is the longest running wilderness therapy program for children ages 11 to 17.
Wilderness therapy is a powerful experience for an adolescent. By the end of an outdoor program, teens develop a strong sense of accomplishment and personal growth, and are well-equipped to move onto the next stage of their journey.

Example of creativity is...

Just have the second last session of the ONLINE  Business course. Chung Sir always gives us an impression of creativity and action -taking. He shares plenty of ideas and opportunities around life, any moment he can discover something meaning to do and value to bring to others and profits to people and self.

The more you connect with this type of mentors and enterprises, the more you will find there is no time for depression and feeling bored.

Even house working and water planting can give him idea to create new or improve products. He is now trying to innovate a solar system to plant his organic field automatically and then promote it to schools.  He said present youngsters are too Internet virtual orientated and don't like to do specific work. That is not healthy and creative at all.

You have chance to do everything for yourself during your stay. Treasure the chance and make the best of it no matter how different the conditions are to what you expected.

computer tips

Gen,

You see, it is lucky we could get in touch with you again. You'll never know when we need you imperatively.
1
the Dell computer: eee is an admin platform for Dell Support to update info so that the computer can run smoothly.

It has been deadly down for several days. Now its mother Board and transformer have been replaced with the new ones. now it can work. I wonder the new computer was tailored made to be dead in two years time.

it seems the new computer can have life time for only 2 years. I asked the technician, who repaired various models as a outsourcing agent, which company's computers are better, he said none! ALL ARE POORER THAN THEIR PREVIOUS GENERATIONS in terms of quality, PROBABLY BECAUSE THE HARDWAREs CANNOT MATCH WITH THE SOFTWARE/INTRERNET DEMANDING. I am not sure but one thing is for certain, there are more wastes and recycle business should be encouraged and becomes flourish in the coming years.

2
Hard-disc: The big hard disc like my NESO cannot be accessed in the some computer but can in others. I asked the technician, he suggested me use DOUBLE-HEAD USP wire. YES. It worked again. SO next time if you find you big DISC does not work, find a double-head USP wire or always keep it with you. WHY? If a computer are plugged with multi USPs, or esp. laptops are used. electricity may be too weak to power the DISC to be opened. TWO HEADS will provide enough power in such case.

3
Have you have got chance to talk, play and get in acquaintance with other exchange students from HK,  other countries or the locals? Not only go with GUANYU. Yo can learn multi culture and many interesting things from locals and foreigners, improving your English. That is a chance that you may not have more in HK.

Enjoy the special Chinese New Year in SG.

Mom

p.s. How is the air quality? HK has more than 300 days with air over max pollution index in the last 360 days, killing more than 3000 innocent people per year.

All is well say to yourself, whenever you are in fear

All is well. I used to say this phrase to myself thousand of time whenever I was in fear and worry. I found it works. Coincidental, "Three Idiots" uses this as a phrase anchor to expel fears and shows you why.

Negotiation Skill 19 - How to make a big deal –

How to make a big deal –

The key answer is-
To think big and think out of boxes

Today Professor Lin’s topic was how to make a big deal by negotiation. He didn’t talk much on skills as previous sessions , instead, he believes mindset is the key in making a big deal on negotiation table – to list your company to the public, to buy or sell a land or house or to merge corporations, to set up a charity worldwide. Those are all big deals.

Ma Yuen started his company with BIG THNKING – to make ALIBABA to the stock market in a few years’ time; Richard Branson had no money to buy an island but he just took the deal first when he found it was worth doing.

So mindset determines if you have the ability to success in the first place.

Prof.  Lin said it is ironic that many people are frightened of failure, but more people are fearful of success. Why? I think success is a process of putting effort and learning from mistakes and failures. A process of breakout of comfort zoon. That need passions, courage and endurance.

My son Eugene popped up with an idea one day in a business course (VCS) of Prof Lin - I win because I dare!

Right! You must have the vision and that is your goal and impetus.

Many people do dreams but most of the dreams are daydreams, wishful thinking, not realistic and feasible for practice. Or the dreams are not from their heart, their cells but only from their conscious level. That is an empty dream only.  Only you subconscious mind fills with your dreams, they will automatically turn into action, like my nephew Little Andrew (now 9 months), whenever he wonders about something, it is in action next second to explore.

An ideal dream is dream that includes ideas that burst into passions and passions to action.

How to think big and think out of box in the first place?

·        With obsessively curious, hungry mind for education, education is the best investment in ourselves, and lifelong investment that will aspire you imagine and to take action.

·        By practice, trying and error.

·        By learning – learning from books, mentors, learning from successful models, learning from own failure and successful  experiences.

To have a learning mindset, one has to have an open-mindset, broad view and less sensitive self-ego, so that your humble mind will be opt to new things, different views from yours and your past experiences will not become a limiting decisions or barriers.

To be a big thinker doesn’t mean you can succeed if you are not down to earth, step by step and chase for excellence.

Here are some ideas looking like paradoxes but if they are on alignment, they are just the key to success-

Think big v.s. down to earth, chase for profession and excellence

If you chase excellence, success will chase you.

Less self-centered  v.s. be broad heart for others

The more people you serve, the more wealth you will create for them, the more benefit in return to yourself

What I have realize is it is not the negotiation skills that help you to make a big deal but the mindset you have in the first place that will enable you to apply the skill to make a big deal on negation table.

A letter to Son (an exchange student)

B,

In the new environment, how to deal with your subconscious mind - esp. your emotion and pick up your spirit is the most important elements to gain control in your life and settle down.

Try to think from more angles and put yourself in someone else's shoes, you will not lose temper and be too rough to your family, or others, hopefully never.

What you do something is what you do everything. This applies to bad and good things.

Don't let your anger to burst anytime to your family. It hurts others' feeling - it might affect your personality and relationship and career once it becomes your character. Try to get rid of the childish short temper.  Character can make you and also break you.

What you do something is what you do everything applies to good thing: Success doesn't happen in a moment but a result of accumulation of persistence, effort and patience.

Kindness and generosity is the source of happiness. Remember the more you give your love and care, the more you will get from others and much more than your expected.

AQ and EQ plus Kindness is more than IQ for your own happiness and others around you.

Just wish to receive your warm concerning call for your family and sharing your experience on the joy of  problem solving.

An important key to find happiness

Wherever You Are, Be There

By Jim Rohn

One of the major reasons why we fail to find happiness or to create unique lifestyle is because we have not yet mastered the art of being.
While we are home our thoughts are still absorbed with solving the challenges we face at the office. And when we are at the office we find ourselves worrying about problems at home.
We go through the day without really listening to what others are saying to us. We may be hearing the words, but we aren't absorbing the message.
As we go through the day we find ourselves focusing on past experiences or future possibilities. We are so involved in yesterday and tomorrow that we never even notice that today is slipping by.
We go through the day rather than getting something from the day. We are everywhere at any given moment in time except living in that moment in time.
Lifestyle is learning to be wherever you are. It is developing a unique focus on the current moment, and drawing from it all of the substance and wealth of experience and emotions that it has to offer. Lifestyle is taking time to watch a sunset. Lifestyle is listening to silence. Lifestyle is capturing each moment so that it becomes a new part of what we are and of what we are in the process of becoming. Lifestyle is not something we do; it is something we experience. And until we learn to be there, we will never master the art of living well.

I have tried this therapy sent from a friend and strongly recommend it to my readers and friends.
