Just take it easy and keep a positive mindset anytime

GEN,

I could not sleep last night when you looked so down during the exam period.

Thinking back for my time in POLYTECHNIC, I considered it to be my biggest challenge as my English was far far behind (only 3 years in ENGLISH STUDY from ABC since I came to HK). I said to myself, if I had the chance to be admitted, I must have the ability because people thought I could, so I should not look down to myself. I just did every day the best I could and that was enough. I didn't think anything else. The final year was also terribly tough because of my arthritis that forced me to stay at home for some time. But I managed to get passed in all anyway and got the first job before graduation in my class, recommended by our dept head, LEE Sir.

Thanks for grandmother 's acupuncture, I could walk to attend the external exams. All of our exams were organized by UK Us.

After that, I found everything was much easier and manageable than I expected in my working life.

Uncle Qiu, living on SANDWICH for his bachelor studying life and never told us this. He was in hospital once. He never complained anything.

I think you must have grown up especially on managing your emotion and viewing challenge and difficulty. You have learnt some NLP. In life, most of what you think is illusion, imagination. It all depending how you think and your attitude. Your self-talk is self-hypnosis that controls your life. You need to import positive thinking every day. Remember: emotion influence behavior and thus result.

Don't be underestimate yourself during exam and critical time. Be confident in facing any challenge. And don't over estimate in yourself either during any time. Both are limiting factors and only make you stuck or left behind. Be facing a real self and try to polish it to be perfect (communication with and relationship to others and to inner your selfless; try to understand from other's point of view and multi-views) and minimize blind spots. Then you will be much relaxed and happier and healthier.

Some suggestions -

Just to get some improvement on emotion control (peaceful mind at any time), physical strength (need workout not just Vitamins and supplements. Habituating yourself to run or to do any daily exercise is the key for your long term well-being and find a better way to study.

A good life habit and lifestyle makes your life much smooth and relaxed. You know that bad habits will create many troubles and that is accumulated to a level that damages health and personal development. It is a cliché talk but common sense is not common. Many people don't know themselves at all.

I found a successful person embraces the following characters:

1

responsible to himself and others

2

be kind to others with a loving and helpful mind

3

empathy and understanding ( put his own foot in other's shoe)

4

open-minded and never waste chance to learn from mistakes and from others

5

curious

6

resourceful

7

resilience and toughness

8

It’s a matter of a choice

http://www.happiestever.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/healthy-life.jpg

3-12-2010

Life is a journey of choice. Almost in every aspect and every day, there is an array of choices in front of us. Different choices lead to different consequences.

Talking about lifestyles, America’s health and fit icon Mr Jack Lalanne at his age 95 now is still energetic, he is still writing a book, working out and swimming 2 hours each single day. Unfortunately many people at 20s to 30s start complain to have backs, head pains or/and joint aching, etc. The fact is cancers, diabetes and heart attacks and all major diseases are never elderly evils. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJVEPB_l8FU) But they are avoidable to some extent with a health lifestyle.

Looking at my parents, these years they have travelled to Tibet at their age 79 and 77, visited the Shanghai Expo and many places in the world. They do dancing, go hiking and swimming as their routines. It is our blessing to have such energetic parents.

It’s sad to hear some people make excuse that they don’t care to live long but just want to enjoy life now. “I don’t have time to do workout.” “I can’t live without cigarettes.” Processed food in salty, high sugar content or fatty types has dominated the main menus or become the favorite for our young generation. No wonder more and more young people and children are being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. “While not everyone with type 2 diabetes is overweight, obesity and lack of physical activity are two of the most common causes of this form of diabetes.” (Please read: http://diabetes.webmd.com/guide/type-2-diabetes)

The truth is if we continue to abuse our bodies, ignore health and fitness, we will eventually be aging earlier and be lying in hospital bed even at our young or mid-ages. Not only will our body be damaged physically but mentally if we don’t choose a healthier life NOW.

Here is a set of tips:

Stand if you don’t have to sit;

Leaves 70% full and never eat too much especially before sleep or need to sit for a long time;

Walk for at least 10-15 minutes after each meal;

2- hour workout at least once a week;

Less sweets, fat and salt and as more variety of vegetables/fruits as possible;

Drink different sources of water like mineral water, fruit juice and vegetable juices

How we treat our body in our daily life will result in completely different quality of life in any phase of our life; especially we are reaching at older age. In fact, our body is remarkably resilient than we expected. It is never too late to start change to a healthier lifestyle. You can still enjoying your life fully and completely at any age as soon as you change to be fitter and healthier. It is all because of matter of what you want to be.

Mentally fitness is even more important than physically because it has been proved that 90% of cancers are related to long-term melancholy, anxiety and depression.

No one is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes. Most people in their lives have some heartbreaking experiences and setbacks in their careers. That is life. But you can choose to be still optimistic - get up, look forward to start a new you; or you can stick to live in the dark shadow by carrying the historical loading, past issues or “unforgettable accident” on your shoulder, limiting your potential to be better, let alone excel entirely.

(Please watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tl58qufXfYk)

In our inner spiritual world, we have freedom to make the best choices in our communication with ourselves and the outside world. We can choose to be the owners or to be the slaves of our emotion, which controls our behavior, manner and our destiny or fate. The thing is we usually choose to be the later - that is to be vulnerable rather than strong.

It is undeniable that our personal happiness, family wellbeing, and quality of life are all determined by our choices. We should take the responsibility to what we choose that is controlled by our emotion; that means we must be responsible to our emotion. Learning to control our emotion is a life learning and self-development process.

To build up a healthier lifestyle physically and mentally is a value system and an attitude change process – if you value yourself and your family and people who love you so much, you will be opt for a change - to stay on healthy life habits, optimistic philosophy and positive thinking, even when facing challenges. Simple, positive thinking means constructive approach, by which you will make things better. What do you want? Better or worse?

It is all up to your own choice. If you have made a wrong decision, you have to take the consequence but don’t forget that you have the ability to correct it before it is too late. There are no unsolved problems but unresourceful state. That is the most vital lesson I’ve learnt in my life.

The following statements can influence us for life –

Chris Howard:

Situational behavioral flexibility increase effectiveness.

Ecology of outcome mist be considered and evaluated because ecological framework increases wholeness.

Only feedback no failure, so utilize everything.

Respect other person’s model of the world.

Choice is the desired condition, so design processes to gain more choices, not fewer.

If you help people to get what they want most, you will get what you want most.

Change occurring on the unconscious level is pervasive and creates ling –lasting results.

Denis Waitley:

“Losers live in the past. Winners learn from the past and enjoy working in the present toward the future.”

“Life is inherently risky. There is only one big risk you should avoid at all costs, and that is the risk of doing nothing.”

“Our limitations and success will be based, most often, on your own expectations for ourselves. What the mind dwells upon, the body acts upon.”

Charles R. Swindoll:

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our Attitudes.”

“We are all faced with a series of great opportunities brilliantly disguised as impossible situations.”

Anonymous:

Attitude to chance: the weak wait for chance, the smart look for chance and the strong create chance.

Facing failures or setbacks:

When facing any setback and adversity, just accept it, face it, deal with it and put it down. Most importantly, move forward, don’ t look back.

Letter to Son after his first mid-term

25-10-2010
Gen,

I think the most important thing to you now is how to use leverage to help you study life progressively.

Firstly, to find any flaws and success in the first two months;

Secondly, to use all resources to leverage your improvement and manage your life better;

Third, to be open-minded to learn from people around you and to help them whenever you can. Remember, respect, friendship and love is earned not demanded. Expanding positive associations is one of the most essential learning in life.

Keeping reading novels and human stories is the quickest way to expand awareness; from which you find human strength, wisdom and resilience and also mistakes, lessons and blind spots; from which you instill in yourself a positive thinking, objective system to face in any circumstances.

Take care,

Mon

Learnings from routine workouts

Date: 15-10-2010

Today is the last day our swimming pool opens this year.

It was also a special day for me - I have been wanting to swim the first day of its opening and the last day as well. I did it as promised to myself. What is more significant - I swam the most frequently in my life this summer. I've started to love swimming; desired to learn more styles and to improve my technique by taking courses.

Global warming has extended the summer, delayed the autumn and shortened the winter but I take advantage of this by immersing myself more in water, to cool off and fill a wonderful recreational need for my body.

Usually I would rush to the pool just half an hour before it closed. Today I set it as a special day in my calendar - I wanted to make it different: after jogging, skipping and dancing as a warm-up in the autumn breeze and tender sunshine this morning, I jumped into the water to find it a bit chillier. The feeling was awesome: Soothing from my heart to body, cooling from my toes to head...

"No life without a routine workout" - a concept I have had instilled in me from an early age. Since then I have benefited from sports and workouts so much of my life. The most phenomenal effect was a year-long morning jog removed 12 pounds of fat frm my clumsy body and this has turned me forever from a neighbor’s fat girl to a slim lady, a fundamental change in my life not only physically but psychologically. Anthony Robbins is right: " When your body changes, so does your mind."

In our life, no matter when we sit, stand or move or sleep, our bones are constantly under the effect of gravity, which is not a balanced condition for our spine and back bones especially. I like the feeling of floating and sliding in water because it works practically all of the muscles without adding loading on the bones, a time for them to relax. Swimming develops our general strength, cardiovascular health and lung fitness and endurance without putting stress and weight on a knee or ankle. Another benefit is more direct: it leaves me refreshed for the rest of my day.

Like jogging, it is the best time for me to do meditation consciously and unconsciously. While I keep the rhythm of my stroke and my breathing, my mind is wandering about, far away from childhood to anywhere and anytime, like a horse cantering in a meadow. Simultaneously my mind is falling into dreams and ideas for a topic I want to write about are flowing freely from my brain.

Jogging and swimming all help me to develop a lifestyle of self-discipline, resilience and preservation.

Most interestingly, this form of meditation gives me a sense of self-worth and positive strength inside my body. I find the relationship between emotion and physical conditions go hand-in-hand. Negative emotion creeps back if our body is not in good shape.

Swimming, jogging, skipping, hiking, dancing, yoga and sword-dance (and more sports to learn) will add more colors to my life.

Light-hearted but felt-hearted

The bilingual stories in Chinese Reader’s Digest are usually my favourite part of the whole book. Despite being only two or three pages in length, every story has something in common: touching and introspective, giving food for thought.

Take Hidden Blessing as an example (December, 2007). Rosemarie Wolmarans, a nursery headmistress, depicts her contemplation behind her decision to accept a handicapped child, who had been rejected by many nursery schools because of his Perthe’s disease, in which his soft joints easily dislocated.

In his treatment, Christos had been wearing plaster casts with rigid a bar for a long period. His movement was restricted and he had to walk with a stiff gait like a robot.

When the headmistress first encountered the disease, she found a big boy sitting on a pushcart wearing splints pushed into her office. But he was going to start primary school the following year. His English was poor and he desperately needed to prepare for his formal education. His mother’s eyes were brimming with tears as this school was his last hope. Rosemarie pondered if the boy would be manageable in this school or, if the boy would cope with the difficulties of fitting in with a normal life with other children – especially when facing teasing. Or easily getting injured with broken legs…”Christos bright brown eyes gazed appealingly at her, silently urging her to ignore his trapped legs and help free his mind.” “If we turned him away as so many others had, what would become of him?”

Rapidly, Rosemarie came to a decision: Christos was given a two-week trial. What a big relief to the mother and the boy!

And the trial turned out to be a magic which changed the boy’s life.

Christos was an ingenious boy with a much more skilful body than expected - he managed to pull himself up the slide and adroitly sailed down to the end; he was excellent in singing and musical games - his clear Italian voice rose above the others; Rosemarie’s worries disappeared quickly when she found Christos was getting popular – the kids liked him and even vied with each other to help him on the swings and with his cart. At the end of the year, Christos had become fluent in English and one of the best in singing.

Soon after the nursery school life, all plasters were removed from Christos’ legs. He had been fully recovered. Unequivocally, Rosemarie was the first person to thank for this. While feeling so pleased when Christos and his mother visited her immediately after being discharged from hospital, Rosemarie was a bit ashamed of herself esp. for her initial reaction to Christos. She said Christos gave her and her school much more than what they had done for him.

'He taught other children compassion, kindness, patience and love. He showed us how to persevere, how to be brave, happy and how to overcome adversity by a cheerful disposition and a positive attitude.’

Another message I got from this real story is that if we treat people with diseases and disability as you and me, their lives will be completely different. Thinking that there are still so many ‘Christos’ who have been deprived of education because of discrimination and poverty, I can’t help feeling sad but thankful to see Christos’ luck and the much more fruitful, healthy life a school brought to him.

It reminds me of the famous quote of Princess Diana: “The biggest disease today is not leprosy or TB but the feeling of being unwanted”

Another remarkable story that I like so much is ‘Think Small’ (November, 2007), written by a 14-year-old girl.

Patricia at age 9 was a surprisingly blessed girl, understanding, brimful of acting talent. Whenever her father came home from work at night, feeling completely exhausted, she was a bit uneasy. She didn’t like to see her father sitting silently, or being grumpy. Then, she would blab away amusingly in her own language or even follow her father, performing the funny acts she made up herself. She also entertained her father by acting as cartoon characters from Disney movies, making her father cry tears of mirth. At first, she was a bit scared that her father would scold her for her ‘irritation’ and ask her to leave. But her father’s smile relieved her tension, “Whenever you make Mama, Brother and me laugh, you make us feel a lot better and less tire,” he smiled down at her.

She was astonished by her father’s praise and still holds them in her heart.

While many people think BIG and try to make things different, she is thinking of small tricks to change the mood of her family, meanwhile making herself more comfortable. Incredibly, she changed the way they looked at things, changed the way they thought of life.

She realised that her small acts – making people laugh can help release stress and pressure. More magical things can happen if we have a pleasant working environment and pleasant families. People would love their families more and care more about others.

She reminds us that the most important thing we need to have is Family Love and a pleasurable life when coming back from a wearing working day.

Patricia is perfectly right – to make a difference, we don’t need to think BIG all the time. ‘Just drop our ugly frown, put on our best smile, go out into the cold, dark world and spread some light, warmth and love to those who need it.’

Perhaps, just a smiling greeting like ‘hello’ or ‘morning’, tiny help, or starting small talk with your neighbours you’ve never talked to would please and even comfort them unexpectedly. Sadly, this is not commonplace to many of us living in the metropolis, in the densely populated high-rise buildings.

A Peaceful Mind

Happiness seems difficult to obtain because never-ending desires drive us to crave more and that hunger eventually leads to more pain, frustration and disappointment.

I understand that happiness is a state of mind – a sense of contentment. You don’t have to be smooth every day or successful in everything you have done to be happy. You don’t need to be rich in material or have a prestige status to be gratified. You can still living a peaceful but content life with ups and downs.

Happiness is always living in your mind if you can keep an inner peace. You will be happy and feel content with whatever you have if you have attained this inner peace.

That doesn’t mean you should not strive for what you want, instead, with inner peace and contentment, you will enjoy a whole process when pursuing your goal no matter how tough you are faced. You will be level-headed towards obstacles and be more resourceful to get it through.

As a result, people with inner peace are not different from ordinary people – they have sorrow, hassles and make mistakes. But their attitude prepares themselves to have enough understanding to keep them strong in the face of adversity. They don’t treat mistakes as a problem but a step to success. They can get up after each falling in their journey of life. They can see things not only from their own but other people’s point of views before making a judgment and decision. They show a kindness toward all living things and a deep appreciation for natural world around them. They consider wealth spiritually, emotionally not just physically.

The most important element to achieve inner peace is to control ourselves – not allow negative thinking to consume and overtake yourself. It is said that if you can control your emotion, you can control the world. Gura Sahaja also said if you control your mind, your mind is your friend; otherwise your mind is your enemy. I cannot agree more though it is easier said than done.

I admire those who can laugh at failures and stay energetic all the time; who can smile through adversity. I think if I can keep an optimistic view to my life ahead even at the most difficult of times, life will be much easier and happier than before.

Inner peace is a value system affecting how you see yourself, happenings around you and the world and thus your emotion and behavior. Happiness, in fact, is not far away from you – it is just around you if you are grateful to what you have and be positive, content all the time.

A Brand-new James Bond

Daniel Craig is neither as charming as Roger Moore, nor as sharp as Pierce Brosnan. Likewise; he is not as muscular as Sean Connery and doesn't have as robust, a towering body as all the previous 007s. However, despite my feminine prejudice or preconception, I couldn’t resist going to the cinema to watch the latest James Bond film – Casino Royale, acclaimed as one of the best action films of 2006.

Daniel Craig surprisingly stunning performance proves I was wrong. Instead, he has done a fantastic job. Thanks to his stony face and hit-man image plus the intriguing plot, the conventional spy movie has been revived. We are shown a very different portrayal James Bond as compared with the traditional gorgeous-looking , sweet, upright heroes.

Unlike the previous bond films, the new James Bond gives me a sense of being more humane and real - he is no longer invisible hero or disciplined government spy, but a rather vulnerable, stubborn, playful individual. He makes mistakes, he is tortured to hell and he is even poisoned to near death by his enemies. In spite of his cold killer’s character, the new Bond does have a lovely, heartfelt side when he genuinely falls in love with the bond girl Vesper Lynd, the most beautiful lady among all Bond's series I've ever seen.

Another feature that distinguishes the new James Bond is that there are no any high-tech weapons in the film. Instead, the action part in the film is mainly based on Daniel and other actors’ spectacular stunt skills and his display of martial arts (rather like the stunt master Jackie Chan’s films), which makes the new Bond more endearing, gritty and unusual.

During the two and half hours of breathless fighting, chasing and gambling scenes, the audience experiences a startlingly dark, violent and death-life journey filled with killing suspense and revolting dirty tricks. The contemporary themes featuring the anti-terrorism issue and cutting- edge communication gadgets like mobile phones, lap tops and GPS add a more realistic dimension to the new James Bond.

Casino Royale is serious entertainment and an intelligent thriller. It is a breakthrough in James Bond franchises, introducing a new era of James Bond in the 21 century.

Could We Escape Climate Change?

San Francisco used to impress me with its beautiful, moderate climate, especially its comfy summer – while being braced with the chill breeze drifting from the icily cold Pacific Ocean, one could relax and sunbathe in the pampering, warm sun. To recapture this pleasure, this summer, I escaped the filthy, humid air and unbearably burning heat of Hong Kong, heading for SFC for a short stay in the Bay Area with my siblings.

Completely unexpected, my summer dream turned out to be a sweltering experience that I haven’t had for a long time – This stay coincided with the highest temperatures on record after 1895 in California – most people were living in 32oC to 34oC for 3 consecutive weeks without air-conditioners! And so was I! Unfortunately, more than one hundred old and poor people died of heat stroke. I was awaked by this experience that global warming is not only impending threat but it kills!

Nevertheless, SFC and the Bay Area’ sparklingly clear sky and admirably fresh air had made up for my ‘unperfected’ dream, still giving me a sense of blessed relief.

After 5 weeks, I went home to face the reality.

Approaching over HK islands, I was saddened. Looking out of the window of the plane, I couldn’t see through to its tropical landscapes and unique panorama. Everything was shrouded in tainted, dark, unhealthy smog from the two power plants, traffic to heavily pollutants from the smokestacks in the Mainland. Stepping out of the airport, I started to have a splitting headache and to sneeze all the time. I was a bit blue... It really took me some time to get through the migraines caused by the nasty green-house gases.

According to Hong Kong Environmental Protection Department, the air pollution index has perched at high levels for most of this year. Its average air pollution indexes have doubled or even tripled the World Health Organization limit. Hong Kong’s worsening air pollution has been directly threatening our quality of life. It is estimated that the air mixed with an excess of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, ozone and respirable suspended particulates contributes to an extra 2,000 deaths a year. No wander 95% of executives interviewed by the local Chamber of Commerce recently are very worried about air quality and its effects on their health. A businessman explained to The Wall Street Journal about his family’s recent retreat to Australia: “You can drink bottled water. But with the air — you have to breathe it.”

Clearly, air pollution not only endangers our health, but threatens Hong Kong’s preeminent position as an international financial hub and the financial services capital of Asia. It is high time HK government committed to genuine reductions in air pollutants.

However, I was disheartened to find that Hong Kong’s chief executive, Donald Tsang has not shown his determination in cleaning the air in his last political address by giving a practical plan…

What can we do? Could we still evade the problems of air pollution and global warming? For how long will we have to tolerate the filthy smog?

The beauty of Winter

Blogs are like a diary and journal. It records a person's development in terms of mindset, spirit and emotion changes; Reading them is somehow like reading other's stories but reminds myself who I was and am and what I have been exploring and how to improve ...

Only when the temperatures dropped abruptly and the chilly gusts roared last week, did I realize that winter has finally come to South China and HK.

Only when the winter has finally come to HK, did I find how overwhelmed HK ladies are - they finally have got a chance to show off their fur fashions, trendy coats, fancy jackets, chic boots ...

Yes, winter means so much pleasure and happiness – a season of vocations, reunion and relaxation. For many people working overseas, it is the only time they can visit their beloved families.

Winter means I need more times of workouts in the sun if I don’t want to be frozen in HK where there is no big temperature difference between inside and outside. So winter also means other tough time for the poor, street sleepers, many elderly who are sick and living alone, inspiring us to show our loving and caring by do something for them.

Only when the hasty smog and filthy air were blown away and a blue sky brightened me up in the cold days did I realized how reviving the air was – we finally could breath the real air for a while that we have lost for the past majority of days the whole year long.

As winter comes later and later and gets warmer and warmer mainly because of global worming effect, as winter is so essential for human and all living things on the planet to survive, we should treasure it and do our bit to save it from disappearance …

Yes, winter means so many things to us- a turning page of looking back and look forward and the time for retrospection, reflection and resolution…

Birthday means ...

Blogs are like a diary and journal. It records a person's development in terms of mindset, spirit and emotion changes; Reading them is somehow like reading other's stories but reminds myself who I was and am and what I have been exploring and how to improve ...

17.12.06

Once I was born, I have been embraced by a number of festivals in winter starting from the Winter Solstice – my birthday. Chinese reckon the Winter Solstice as ceremonious as Chinese New Year. Because of this my birthday is inevitably recalled by my parents and my friends who made fuzz over it sometime. What’s more, a strong sense of wintriness in the thick of winter turns this day into overwhelming warmth and joy that Christmas and New Year will bring to us. The winter Solstice dooms me to do something about it - too big day.

In our parents’ eyes, children are ‘little children’ no matter how old we are, which embarrasses me all these years. Thanks to my parents’ stay with my sister this winter, I will have a birthday day with a piece of mind at last. Except for the credit card companies’ official curtsey, piles of promotional coupons and my insurance agents’ thoughtful regard, or probably my parents and siblings wishes, no body will mention my birthday, even my son and my husband. To keep it as low key as possible, which I have been longing for ages.

I tended to take a dusty view of my birthday ever when I was a teenager. I used to believe I was disadvantaged by birth in one sense - my birthday by law is around the winter solstice but according to Chinese tradition, my age has to be added one more year just after several days of my birthday. “That’s not fair” I said to myself whenever the day came. It seemed that I was pushed to grow up while I was still daydreaming of living as free as a bird, playing hide and seek, fancying receiving lovely Barbie-like dolls every birthday …

Now birthday means I have to get older unbelievably quickly during this day no matter how unprepared I am for it or how unlikely I appear to be. It always takes time for me to digest the fact philosophically when it arrives.

I have come to the middle point of my life but it seems I have never ever to start:

I have so many books not yet read, so many topics not yet written; so many interesting things not yet tried … so many dreams not yet fulfilled. What is insight into birthday? I just realized that life is so unpredictable that I feel compelled to tell myself that if I don’t want to regret more in life - birthday means Do It Now!

Don't take it too seriously

There is no ever-increasing or ever-decreasing thing in the universe. Things are always searching for a stable condition. The global stock markets follow this inalterable law. In fact, to be too optimistic when the stock market is bullish or too pessimistic when it is bearish seem to be all dangerous attitude which may mislead you and eventually to cause a financial suffer in the ever-fluctuating stock market.

As far as I know, many people in Hong Kong during office hours dabble in the stock market, due to the convenient online or telephone services. It has become an 'open secret', just no one mentions it. According to the latest survey by one of the parties in HK, on average, one out of five Hong Kongers has more or less investments in the thriving stock market, meaning, the majority of adults believe this is the best way to make a fortune. They seem to forget that the market will not be rosy all the time. Investing in stock market is the most dynamic, risky business since stock prices fluctuate every day, going up and down according to the economic or political climate. Furthermore, history tells us that the stock market will come to its most vulnerable moment when most companies' prices are increasing abnormally.

As minor shareholders, what they don't want to see is having to bear their ruin as philosophically as they can. What can they do to protect their precious, so limited treasure from evaporating overnight? How can they get a breakeven or get what they invested at the worst conditions? Or how can they employ the fluctuation in prices and make a profit when the market ebbs and flows? According to many victims of stock market, the golden rule to avoid a financial ruin and get reasonable return is "Don't take the market too seriously when it is down and too greedy when it is up." Greed only ruins your life.

Here is some practical advice -

Have a sensible financial planning, it means not throwing all your savings into the stock holding business.

Keep a certain amount back so you are able to take the chance to purchase promising stocks at the low tide.

However, experience has proved that if you are a long term or rather conservative investor, you don't need to bother too much about the fluctuations every day. Find some first-rate companies to invest in and you can rest assured that in the long run, their prices will rise. Nonetheless, you always have to reserve some money for emergencies.

Success Begins In Your Mind

Success Begins In Your Mind

– Why Not Start Now!

Success comes in various forms, and also has many meanings, depending on what one is looking for in his or her life, relationship and career.

For instance to athletes, success can mean obtaining that gold medal. To parent’s success can mean raising their children with good values, to doctors, success can mean saving a life ... and to some it can mean a job promotion or acquiring vast wealth.

It actually depends on your own perspective of life...

One apparent thing about success is that every individual has to determine the true meaning of success in his or her own life.

The one’s who walk through life making an attempt to accomplish “success” through someone else’s standards or through the standards of one’s society will continuously be lacking that true successful feeling!

The modern dictionary defines success as that certain measure or degree of achievement or accomplishment or as a desirable and favorable outcome.

You need to make the decision of “what it is you truly want”?

To accomplish true success, you must set realistic goals for yourself, meaning goals which can be achieved...

You can easily measure your success as to how close you come to accomplishing the goals that you have set for yourself based on your own skills and abilities.

Know that your “subconscious mind” is a very incredible and powerful tool and that you must utilize it wisely to its complete capacity, in order to accomplish full-on success.

To fully understand how powerful and encouraging your “subconscious mind” can be, you should understand first and recognize that there really is no “coincidence”, that nothing in life occurs just by accident or chance.

Meaning, nothing is predestined, and that you do have the power to control, not only your life - but also your success and your failure.

Events or incidents in life can be controlled to help resolve one’s problems. You have the power to change certain aspects of your life - which you are not happy with...

Whereas there is no disagreeing to the fact that we cannot at all times acquire everything which we may want, it is likewise true that you can fully utilize your natural power over events in your life and cause things to move in your desired direction more “frequently”.

Expectation, belief and desire are the three powerful forces which can help you to do so. Before anything we wish for to occur can happen, we must not only truly desire for it to happen, not only believe deeply that it will happen, but also fully expect it to happen.

The “subconscious mind” generates all things in your life based on the information and messages you first send to it.

We are continuously sending the mind information and messages – the problem is most of the information sent is negative information which only works against you.

This is why some things never seem to recuperate regardless of all our efforts to make them succeed!

It will be truly difficult to follow any success level if you are not truly specific and clear regarding what you believe is attainable for yourself.

After this it is important we gauge our actions, thoughts and motives, as we go about our daily life.

You should gain understanding and knowledge of where you want to be … monitoring the things you are doing wrong, as well as the things you are doing right.

Subsequently you should be ready to change for the better when and as it is needed. Always remember that whatever you display in your beliefs, thoughts and actions are ALL sent to your “subconscious mind”.

So be careful what thoughts you entertain because your thoughts turn to beliefs and your beliefs turn to actions, and all three can have a great influence towards your success.

Note that…

• If we worry constantly about not acquiring enough finances, then we will really not acquire enough;

• If we think we do not have the capability to accomplish our goals, then we will never achieve any;

• If we think that there are not enough open opportunities, then there will never be.

Why?

Simply because the “subconscious mind” is constantly working on the information which we have sent to it and “negative information” results in nothing but a “negative outcome”.

When you do accomplish your goal, stop a while and relish that certain satisfaction and pleasure of achieving a goal.

Great or small, it is ALL success; the beginning of that life you truly want for yourself!

Well you can't help having a bit of bad luck now and again; that's life. But you can control your state of mind and have a positive attitude. That's a trait you don't find every day but the key to survive and success.

The article sent to my email today shows us that life is not a fate. Human can choose NOT to be a slave of events. We have choice to what we want and to response,  to get the results we desire, to learn to improve our situatins spiritually, physically and wealthly.

(By MIng WOng)

Food for thoughts - love, marraige, mistakes and apology

Love and marriage:

1. When you say, 'I love you,' mean it.

2. Marry a man/woman you love to talk to. As you get older, their conversational skills will be as important as any other.

3. Love deeply and passionately. You might get hurt but it's the only way to live life completely.

Attitude and Behaviour:

1. Give people more than they expect and do it cheerfully

2. Don't believe all you hear, spend all you have or sleep all you want.

3. Never laugh at anyone's dream.

4. In disagreements, fight fairly. No name calling. No dirty words; be respect!

5. Talk slowly but think quickly.

6. Remember the three R's: Respect for self; Respect for others; and responsibility for all your actions.

7. Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship.

8. Smile when picking up the phone. The caller will hear it in your voice.

9. Spend some time alone.

10. Before sleeping, thinking back what the best thing of the day and the worst. Then try to make every day to be the best.

11. A true friend is someone who reaches for your hand and touches your heart.

Mistakes and Apology:

1. The importance to say sorry and to make it meaningful - Never be ashamed to admit you were wrong. You’re only saying that you’re wiser today than you were yesterday.

2. When you screw up (make mistakes, fail), you apologize. A good apology has three parts: I’m sorry. It was my fault. How do I make it right? Most people skip that third part.

3. When you lose, don't lose the lesson!

Life is a blessing - Poems to Son

Dear Gen,

Your U life just began. Things are not as smooth as expected. Here are some ideas for you:

When you feel unhappy,

Think about the Pakistan’s dying victims in the flood;

When you feel down,

Think about people just killed in the hostage event in the Philippines;

When you feel lonely,

Think of people who love and care of you so much;

When you feel dreary,

Listen to your favorite music and Christ CD (Leadership mindset) to brighten you up;

Happiness is just within your reach with perceptiveness and appreciativeness;

A fulfilled life starts from a thanksgiving heart and sharing mindset.

Below is the best example how an Orange can make the poet so happy:

The orange (By British Piet, Wendy Cope)

At lunchtime I bought a huge orange –

The size of it made us all laugh.

I peeled and shared it with Robert and Dave –

They got quarter and I have a half.

And that Orange, it made me so happy,

As ordinary things often do,

Just lately. The shopping . A walk in the park,

This is peace and contentment. It’s new.

The rest of the day was quite easy.

I did all the jobs on my list

And enjoyed them and had some times over.

I love you. I’m glad I exist.

The poem is written in prosaic (plain) language but beamed with contentment, joy and human emotion. It reveals that happiness and fulfillment is a state of mind – ordinary life can be a blessing if we see it from a different point of view and understand nothing is taken for granted.

Existence is a blessing.

Happiness can be created if we are creative enough.

There is no lack of resources

But

Lack of creativity, self motivation and self awareness.

Learning to live with people in difference is a life technique.

Learn to adjust changes is the process of growing up.

You have started to practice what you have leant in NLP.

Please listen to the Leadership MIndset CD 1 to know what rapport and an open-mindset really mean.

Tony Robbins said,

If you have an opne-minedset,

Yu will learn from everything.

If you have a closed-mindset,

You will learn from nothing.

Be open minded and put down our ego, things will be easier than expected.

Dream or Reality?

SIMPLIFIED VERSION

MOVIE REVIEW:

11-8-2010

I think ‘Inception’ could be one of the “best references books” for us to understand the impact of our deepest internal world – the sub-consciousness and its effect on our life.

In the film, we hear repetitively the classic hypnosis trance scripts or typical hypnotic language. Using these techniques, one can become more persuasive and empower others to expand his awareness, “implant” new ideas on him and even change his beliefs and value systems, thus changing a person’s personality and mindset. This powerful effect is typified in Fischer and Mal’s cases in the film.

Although the audience was bombarded by INCEPTION”s overwhelmingly abundant information, actions, suspicions plus its intensely creative plots, I am impressed by the message of the film delivered without any confusion:

For some people, Dream is reality and reality is dream (like in Chinese: life is a dream.) They take their dream seriously. Ironic!

The film reveals a fact that in our subconscious world, reality is the same as fantasy, imagination and hallucination. One can't tell reality and dream apart. To manipulate this phenomenon positively, one can hypnotize/implant positive ideas into subconscious mind which is similar to a child with age around 7 or 8 in terms of thinking system. This will affect one’s behavior and emotions profoundly and beneficially. Conversely, the implantation of negative ideas no matter consciously or unconsciously may ruin a person’s life. An example is Mal, Cobb’s wife who jumps from a height to find her destiny because of an idea implanted by her husband Cobb. Chilling and horrid!

Studies found that the human thinking system is full of self perceptions and imagination, thus, it can be changed if perception and imagination are changed, so can personality. This can be done through self hypnosis or external hypnosis, in which a human’s conscious and subconsciously mind are both active, except his critical faculty. In the film, the change takes place during deep dreams when the conscious mind is sleeping. I have to say that this is exaggerating, but the idea is thought provoking.

This film challenges a viewer’s boundary to extremes time and again. While I don’t believe anyone can invade into one’s dream, I like the most honest esp. the wildest imagination in the film. That’s the fantasy of the movie.

Why do I say so? I was shocked to find that many scenes in the film coincidentally appear in my recurring dreams - a bridge or a mountain trial or road collapsing out of blue, leaving me trapped or stuck in darkness or on the edge of a cliff; flying weightlessly in zero gravity; a magnificent city emerging from the ground or floating in the sky; a dream within a dream and within another dream …

I believe this is not only the case with me. The film has received exceptional high box-office globally, showing that that dream scenes in INCEPTION may have become a collective memory in a human’s twisting dreaming world during sleep and thus striking a chord with its audience.

Beliefs and ideas are like a strong parasite. Once it is implanted into our subconscious mind, it will grow and eventually rule our conscious mind, determining our life and destiny. Thoughts become things. So be careful of any thoughts or ideals fed into your mind no matter if consciously or unconsciously.

That is why critical thinking is crucial.

Here the director Christopher Nolan talks about his film:

The crucial breakthrough to completing his “Inception” script was considering what could happen if multiple people could share the same dream. “Once you remove the privacy,” Mr. Nolan said, “you’ve created an infinite number of alternative universes in which people can meaningfully interact, with validity, with weight, with dramatic consequences.”

“The potential of the human mind is infinite. It has to feel like you could go absolutely anywhere by the end of the film…”

Inception was the most breathtaking film I have ever seen. You know what, it is a film that I want to see again the first time for its constantly challenging audience’s boundary of imagination; for its ingenuousness and thought-provoking element and more…

How to apply Meta-program to build a better personality?

Date: 18-8-2010

Reflection on NLP courses by Christ Howard Team

Part 6: How to apply Meta-program to build a better personality?

ENNEAGRAM is a modeling of characters in which, nine types of characters are found based on the way how a person makes them fulfilled.( In this system, I am rather a helper and peacemaker.)

Similarly, meta-program is to analyze the tendency of a person’s thinking and behavior based on the mindset, beliefs and values and all internal filters. In this system, I’m in the middle or bias a bit to one side but not extreme except I am IN TIME person most of the time.

In the ancient theory – ENNEAGRAM, a person’s character is more or less determined by birth and inherent, meta-program is more flexible and content/context oriented. In different case, a person can have a different meta-pattern or tendency to think or behave. As they are building blocks of Personality, they are able to improve or alter from environment to environment in this sense intentionally.

To improve personality, we need to understand the strengths and weaknesses in each category of a person’s meta-programs:

In the Principle meta-program, a sensor person is a doer; he will experience first rather just think or imagine what will happen; they like to go to details, while an intuitor prefer to perceive the possibilities, the relationships and meanings of experiences and tends to see things in outline. A mixture will be more completed to be a person with a better personality.

In terms of thinking and feeling, a thinker tends to think objectively, impersonally and to consider causes and events that leads to decision because they are able to dissociate themselves from an event. They will consider causes and consequence of an event. Feelers are associated and tend to look through their own eyes and make judgments personally and subjectively. They usually weigh the value of choices based on their past and on how these values matter to others.

The overuse of dissociation will cause a lack of empathy, "inability" to connect well in relationships, limited awareness of one's own emotions, or a loss of joy and passion for life. However, overuse of association may not able to manage in work under pressure and stress.

The overuse of association will tends to lead a person gets "stuck" in a perceptual position which is unpleasant, painful, inappropriate, confused, or in some other way negative. People with strong skills in associating, but relatively weak skills in disassociating, may be more likely to use external substances, ritualized behaviors or excessive means to help them disassociate from their experience -- rather than internal skills in moving between perceptual positions.

A judger wants to run his own life and prefers to live in a decisive, planned and orderly way. They aim to control and regulate events. A perceiver wants to let his life happen and will prefer to live life in a spontaneous, flexible way. They aim to understand life and adapt to it. The former judge time seriously and the later tend to be unpunctual.

In the secondary meta-programs, regarding motivation filter, a toward person tends to be motivated by rewards, praise, positive feedback and future goals. An 'Away from' person is motivated more by threats, fear of failure, or avoiding negative possibilities.

The brighter side of toward type is they are very initiative and positive. But their goals may be not realistic and their motivation will be affected by the unwanted details and results and give up eventually. It can lead a person to make decisions potentially risky, not perceiving or recognizing pitfalls and obstacles which could prevent a goal from being reached

The away person has no big goals usually, sees things with negative filters and keep negative memory more than positive, despite the fact that many good things did occur. Likewise, they may come to expect negative events to occur in the future.

An ideal meta-programmed person should be balanced between the two extreme personalities. This is proved by many successful and generally happy people. In short, “Dream for the best, be prepared for the worst." Be optimistic and realistic, down to the earth and focusing on goals that are reachable but can also big.

So, how to change to be a better programmed person or to be with an ideal personality?

To take ecological check on your old personality and determine what the desirable personality you want. Aim the target and put in into action.

Be an action taker because successful people are all action takers.

To me, the biggest issue is taking action...

Life is a long term hypnotic journey

Part 5: Life is a long term hypnotic journey

Reflection on NLP courses by Christ Howard Team

Part 5: Life is a long term hypnotic journey

The advanced course last for another five days from 9 a.m. to evening and was completed last night. The superbly intensive course was an eye-opening event and heart searching journey. An enlightenment and life experience!

I was overwhelmed by the profound information, concepts and teachings that will take me life time to digest and practice.

In this higher level course, we need to solve value issue – a system shapes and determines behavior in a personal, business and social context.

Value is simply what is important to a person. It is a projection of a set of internal Filters that determine an individual’s Model of the World. We learnt the sources of values, how to elicit, align and change them for self, others and organizations.

In a demonstration during leaning the skills of value elicitation and awareness expansion, a classmate's value system changed from most away to 70% toward direction to his goal - he put profit to the last and leadership to the first and salesmanship to the second. An upside down change! He turned out to be more realistic, more accountable and process-enjoyable guy rather than wishful thinker. Amazing transformation!

One of my favorable parts is Masterful Hypnosis - a part has been fascinated to me for a long time.

In the initial practice, I was skeptical about hypnotic power and a deep trance I could fall, though I have come to the point that we are creature of hypnosis and hypnosis exists everywhere around us. I was spellbound to see for myself that it worked! Hypnosis is achievable for everyone!! It just needs a bit imagination plus trust to the coach and to your own unconsciousness.

For instance, a lady suffering from a severe neck, back pain thus excruciating head pain has been hypnotized for about 15 minutes. Immediately after the process, her pains from head to back reduced from degree 70 to zero according to her. She knows the pains there but they don't bother her any more as the painful areas have been numbed;

I myself was amazed to see I could talk to audience without stage fright after seconds of concentration of my mind. Soon I was completed engaged in my talk and enjoyed the process that I would be scared before. Despite the fact that the talk only last 4 minutes, I wonder that everyone has the potential to become a speaker, when observing all speakers' exciting gestures and faces! Unbelievable!

I realized that if I believe in my own subconscious mind and imagination, I will get into trance and create empowering neurological change at the unconscious level. That’s because the critical faculty is removed at this moment and positive thinking, suggestions and your desired values, behaviors and ideas can go straight into unconscious mind, resulting in performance change or enhancement substantially.

Hypnosis is also popularly applied in pain control, refreshment and focus and emotional control:

Sensations of pain can be also eliminated and relaxation is shifted and congruency between body and mind can be developed.

From the course and Peter real life experiences, the truth in my mind has been cemented that happiness, reality, problems and solutions are all a state of mind and imagination.

It is your choice to decide what you want to attain and to be:

Let's remember Neville's theories about reality and future:

Man believes that reality resides in the solid objects he sees around him, that it is in the world that the drama of life originates, that events spring suddenly into existence, created moment by moment out of antecedent physical facts. But causation does not lie in the external world of facts. The drama of life originates in the imagination of man. The real act of becoming takes place within man's imagination and not without.

The future will not be fundamentally different from the imaginal activities of man; therefore the individual who can summon at will whatever imaginal activity he pleases, and to whom the visions of his imagination as real as the forms of nature, is master of his fate.

The course has expanded our awareness in terms of critically, positively thinking; shown how dreams can turned to reality in a strategically, smartly way and how life can be controlled by self instead by events or fate.

INCEPTION V.S. NLP Theories

Film Review:

9-8-2010

Film Review:

9-8-2010

I think ‘Inception’ could be one of the “best references” for us to learn Neurological Linguistic Patterns (NLP) and hypnosis theories. It helps me to understand the impact of our deepest internal world – the sub-consciousness effect on our life.

In the film, we can hear repetitively Erickson’s classic hypnosis trance scripts or typical hypnotic language; it vividly features the elements of NLP theories like chunking, reframing and spin patterns. By using these techniques, one can become more persuasive and empower others to expand awareness and “implant” new ideas and even change their beliefs and value systems, thus changing a person’s personality, emotions, behavior and results in life. This powerful effect is typified in Fischer and Mal’s cases in the film.

Although the audience was bombarded by INCEPTION”s overwhelmingly abundant information, actions and suspicions, its intensely creative plots, it was the most breathtaking film I have ever seen. I am impressed by the message of the film delivered without any confusion:

We learn from NLP that the human thinking system is full of self perceptions and imagination, thus, it can be changed if perception and imagination are changed, and so can personality. This can be done through self hypnosis or external hypnosis, in which a human’s conscious and subconsciously mind are both active, except the critical faculty. In the film, the change takes place during deep dreams when the conscious mind is sleeping. I have to say that this is exaggerating, but the idea is in alignment with NLP.

This film challenges a viewer’s boundary to extremes again and again. While I don’t believe anyone can invade into one’s dream, I like the most honest and wildest imagination in the film. That’s the core fantasy of the movie.

Why do I say so? I was shocked to find that many scenes in the film coincidently appear in my recurring dreams - a bridge or a road or a mountain trail is break into two pieces or pieces out of blue, leaving me trapped or stuck in an unknown darkness or on the edge of a cliff; flying in a free gravity system and a magnificent city emerging from the ground or floating in the sky; a dream within a dream and within another dream …

I believe this is not only the case with me. The film has received exceptional high box-office globally, showing that dream scenes in INCEPTION may have become a collective memory in a human’s twisting dreaming world during sleep.

Types of Hypnosis practice in our NLP course

Reflection on NLP courses by Christ Howard Team

Date: 10-8-2010

Part 5: Types of Hypnosis practice in our NLP course

During hypnotic stage, the hypnotized person is returned to their imprint period with age 7 to 9 without critical faculty. However, both conscious and unconscious minds are still active. The person can hear what the hypnotist is saying to them and follow instructions during a trance if firstly they trust the hypnotist and their own intention and learn how to fall into trance. This can be built up only until a good rapport is established between the two parties.

Purposes and application of hypnosis have extended from relaxation and gaining a calm, peaceful mind to healing pains both physically and psychologically. In addition, in management and self development, old mindsets will be erased and new attitudes, beliefs or values will be installed. And then one can deeply embed suggestions for performance enhancement.

How to create a good rapport?

According to Mr Dave Elman, “pre-talk” is the first step to release many people’s fears or misconceptions about what hypnosis is. In the pre-talk, your client will be assured that they are controlling themselves all the times. You can get them trusted to what you will instruct them to do later then. The subject must be agreed with the hypnotized person’s intention and a safety feeling should be secured by both.

In the test of opening eyes during trance, the client’s will find it is hard to open their eyes even trying and struggling to, during this moment, the critical faculty is removed if the trance is continue to going deeper.

We have tried Ericksdonian Hypnotic communication, his patterns of hypnotic language in part 1 of the NLP courses.

We will soon practice Hypnosis induction by Dave Elman, Induction with Convincers by George Estabrooks and rapid induction together with pain relief skill.

I can’t wait for the new course to start. It is a magic but it can be learnt and mastered by anyone to help them to build up their dreams. Dreams with reality not fantasy. That is the mystery I want to know soon.
